I have finally done it. I have signed up for my first Skillshare class. I stumbled upon this website while browsing design blogs and was immediately intrigued. The website offers classes that teach specific skills with learn-at-your-own-pace video lessons taught by designers around the world. If you’d like to learn more, watch their Manifesto Video. I will be taking the “Digitizing Hand Lettering: From Sketch to Vector.” I can’t wait.
A little something for YOU:
Use this link and we both get $10 off a class at Skillshare.
Also, I’ve got some good stuff over at my personal blog.
Hello friends! I have a desktop wallpaper for you to download over at my personal blog. Use it as a reminder to stay positive and remember the grace God gives each of us every single day. No matter others’ wrongs against you, you still have the responsibility to show grace to them and to every person you encounter in your life.
Fun facts: I took this photo sitting at a picnic table right outside Devil’s Tower in Wyoming. I also have my first officially purchased font for the text.
First, if you don’t follow and subscribe to David Airey, do so immediately. He is a brilliant graphic designer and his email and blog posts are short, sweet, and wonderful for any young designer or creative. Seriously, go subscribe to him now. Of all the emails that flood my inbox, I always make time to read his.
Secondly, David shared these blank, photographic design presentation templates the other day on his blog. The templates are a compilation of billboards, coffee mugs, shopping bags, Mac screens, and any other object you could possibly brand, and they are left blank to add your own designs in order to create a realistic presentation of the final product. Any designer would be crazy giddy about these. I haven’t yet purchased them as I do not work in an agency, but they are on my radar as soon as I find some valuable use I can put them to – possibly a portfolio update?
Why didn’t I think of these? So instead, I’m sharing them with the world.
Hello friends, I have two new business card templates on in the Etsy Shop today. These are for YOU to customize – you will receive an editable Photoshop file to add your own information to it. Fonts are listed and they are free for download (they cannot be included in the file for copyright reasons).
Everyone say “ooooh” and “ahhhh” or some other golly-gee-I’m-in-awe-phrase.Enjoy!
Hello friends! I have exciting news! My business card design has been put into a “Treasury” via Etsy’s curators. It sits in the “Textured Treasury.” I think it’s pretty fun that Etsy handpicks certain items and collects them into similar groups. I’m hoping it will get my name out there a little bit.
So far, my experience with opening a store on Etsy has been super interesting and far from what I had expected. I have received a lot of custom orders – people requesting changes or updates or personalization to designs I already have out there. I expected to just see a couple of purchases and downloads once in a while but I have actually communicated with quite a few different people, all with different ideas in mind. Etsy is a great way for any freelancer to get their name out there and although there is a lot of competition to the custom designs game, I have still received quite a few purchases and custom orders.
